In such, feeling my oats … went and shattered the budget into a thousand little pieces … and ordered a pair of the Neo 2.0 ribbon tweeters [$49 each, less ten percent discount (floating interstitial)].
Should put the final gloss on these speakers [2x Pioneer PW-301, 12” alnico per side, on open baffle. Run full range, no x-over of any kind. Connected amplifier direct, in parallel. Linear output to 8k, with a gentle roll off finishing at 10k. Full size, latest Heil AMT, first order high pass, feathering in at 1k. And a single powered 12” sub, to give a little foundation].
A work in progress, the last fifteen years. Now nearing final completion. And if they bring that last little bit of pretty? I'll be the Mayor of Musicville.
The room being the single most important component. Listening room is 14×20, with standard apartment ceiling height. Slab concrete floor. Great acoustics.
Speakers sit seven feet from the back wall, facing along the long wall. Incredible image depth from an all dipole system.
